Step 2 - Company Nomination Application

The employer must also lodge a nomination application providing details of the vacant position & the skills and experience required by the employee who will fill the position. A 457 nominated position must:

  • Be listed on the 457 Occupations List
  • Be full-time
  • Meet all relevant Australian laws and award conditions
  • Meet the minimum skills level
  • Meet the minimum salary level of AUD$47,480 per annum or market rates (whichever is higher)

We will assist you to provide:

  • A full description of the position to be filled
  • A statement of skills, qualifications and experience required for the position to demonstrate that the position meets the minimum skill level,
  • Evidence that the position will be remunerated at a level equal to or above the minimum salary level AUD$47,480 or market rate (whichever is higher), and
  • Personal details of the overseas person who will fill the nominated position and any dependants (spouse, children) accompanying them.
  •

Minimum Skill Level under the 457 Visa Australian Work Permit
The minimum skill level relates to occupations on the Skilled Occupation List of acceptable occupations, reflecting occupational groups 1-4 of the Australian Standard Classification of Occupations (ASCO).

Major occupational groups on the list are:

  • Managers and administrators
  • Professionals (generally university qualified professionals)
  • Associate professionals (generally diploma TAFE-level qualified professionals)
  • Tradespersons and related workers

We will check this list on your behalf to ensure that the nominated position matches one of the occupations on the 457 Occupations List - Metro Areas. Only those occupations that are within ASCO Groups 1 to 4 can be sponsored by metro-based employers. Some occupations within the ASCO 1-4 range, such as apprentice positions, have been omitted from the list and cannot be filled.

For regional and rural-based employers using ASCO Occupation Groups 5 to 7:

Only regional and rural-based employers can sponsor applicants whose occupations fall within the ASCO Groups 5 to 7. A compulsory labour agreement pathway applies to all ASCO 5 to 7 occupations, to ensure that employers using the 457 visa program to access these occupations satisfy obligations on local training and employment.
